Sunday shopping at PC Hooftstraat
To change our Sunday habit we went into Amsterdam, for some weekend shopping and a lunch. Ever since last December (2007) when I got horrible service in every shop I went to, Dolce & Gabbana apart, I have made a solemn vow not to set my foot on PC Hooftstraat, the luxury shopping street of Amsterdam. The street where all the designer brands are competing in showing off their chic window displays. Mostly I find they fail miserably. So do most of the women (because they are mostly women) armoured in Louis Vuitton from top to toe, as the brand would give them a certain status bestowed to them and them alone. People rarely afford you a smile and if they do, it’s not far from a smirk.
Despite my prior disastrious experience, we found ourselves an inviting restaurant. The service left a lot to be desired, but the food was good. We enjoyed some window shopping and I got beauty products from MBR (Medical Beauty Research), which is said to be plastic surgery on a bottle. Expensive stuff though (an eye cream selling at EUR 180!!). My expectations are miles high and I shall accept nothing less than having 10 years shaved off my face!
