More than I love you
There are some things in life that mean more than hearing those three magic words. It’s the little deeds that are in fact the most remarkable acts of humanity. That occurs when you least expect it but need it the most.
I had such an experience last night. I woke up in the middle of the night, restless, with pain in my belly, and heartburn that kept stinging my throat. My whole body felt uncomfortable and I was shifting my weight from left to right and back to centre. At a certain point I felt I couldn’t breath properly with my lungs completely squashed and I sat up to catch some air. I felt a gentle hand on my back, stroking me with soft movements. I stood up went for a walk, went to the toilet, tried to lay down again but nothing alleviated my stressed tummy. Then I heared a voice, a mere whisper in the dark.
- It’s OK. Don’t worry that you keep me awake. I’m here for you honey.
- Thank you, I replied. Like I just had received a well deserved compliment.
Reinout got me the musical stuffed animal, a pink little fish that lately has been residing in our bed and placed it on my belly. That moment my heart opened up, more than ever. It was a moment I wanted to capture, freeze despite all the agony. The moment I felt completely loved for who I am, despite my shortcomings, flaws and failures.
I realised that everyone needs someone like that to watch over them. To make them feel safe and secure. Their very own flesh and blood guardian angel. I’m so fortunate to have found mine.
