Maximizing your workout!

I just came home from my first session with my personal trainer. It was an intake lesson to evaluate my condition and the type of exercises that would be suitable. After one lesson I’m sold! So plan is to do this once a week in addition to my regular three sessions I have at the gym. I noticed some clear difference in training with Robin than if I would train on my own. First of all my normal gym routine is very static. I always start with the cross trainer for 30 minutes and then I have a set of exercises I go through always with the standard equipment. I try to train all the main muscle groups such as stomach, back, chest, thighs and arms. But not all at the same day.

Training with Robin was different. First of all together we set some goals for myself. My first goal is weight loss and reduction in body fat. Secondly balance and thirdly having fun while I train.
Robin designed a program that works in several instances with my own body weight such as using a large ball for training thighs and buttock, push-ups, static movements holding my stomach and buttock firm by supporting my weight on my arms and toes. Another cool thing he introduced was to maximise my fat burning by shifting between different exercises in the moments I would normally pause. An example would be 12 repetitions on the lateral (back) exercise and then going directly on the floor doing some stomach exercises and shift back again. That way you maximise your work out.

The best part of it all was the finish. He got me into the ring to do some boxing.
I have never done it before (apart from my amateur fights with Reinout which he always win).  He showed me the basic movements with foot and leg work and left and right straight punches. It was so much fun. More fun than I ever anticipated. It made me feel very empowered, and I loved the explosiveness in the sport. It was in fact probably what got me hooked and my next question was how his schedule looked like for coming week.

I feel incredibly energized from my session, ready to take on the world. In an hour I have a lunch scheduled with Peter’s lawyer and after that conference calls and a fair bit of work on Onlinesalsa. Well, not a match anymore. I just can’t wait to get my hands dirty!
