“I don’t work, I’m a housewife”

Posted by: fracas on November 6 @ 12:43 pm

Why is it on the few days I have to go into the office I am also left with all the house chores at home? My routine on a Monday and Friday looks something like this: Wake up at 7.15. Put in the first set of wash for Caroline and feed Sebastian. At 8.30 when I’m back, I make coffee for my husband and feed the animals. Then I jump into the shower and get ready whilst Reinout (who just woke up!) has a shower with Sebastian. He hands Sebastian over to me and I change and dress him. After this I put in another set of laundry (all the bed clothes) and prepare myself for work. At this point Reinout has already left the building although he woke up one and a half hour later than me.

“Life is not fair!”
I protest to Reinout, who tells me that the house looks like a mess and I should do something about it.

“Do something about it?” I exclaim. “Every day I clean up your empty cups and dessert cups next to your bed. I do the laundry and the dishwasher and the cooking and the tidying up. And I take care of Sebastian. In fact I cannot call myself a professional any longer. I am reduced to being a house wife!”. Reinout laughs at my tirade and I suppose there isn’t much else one can do as I look like a mental patient on the verge of escape.

Housewife… I never thought it was going to come to this but that is what I have become. There are three things to do, you can deny, accept or you can change. Interestingly enough I don’t really feel like changing. It’s not an option either, but “housewife” does have a nostalgic touch to it. One that in this phase of my life I actually like. But to embrace the change one has to go all the way. So next time I get the question what I do for a living….will I so easily admit to being a housewife? Will the conversation stop (because after all what possible information of interest could be exchanged on such a topic?). I am going to take my research to a whole new level. To be continued….

Today’s housewife is now called “wonder-woman” because we not only manage our personal and professional lives very well, we also manage theirs! And the reward is; you get to have it your way :) The best place to be is behind the wheel not in the passengers seat!

I love you too honey! Not sure about your comment though…it’s kind of cryptic and even with my intimate knowledge of the Swedish language, I’m bewildered and lost. But yes, let’s go on a holiday and yes, it takes two to salsa, so lets both lead :)

    kram
