Finally a book again!
I’ve started reading again. It’s been months since I read a book from cover to cover. In fact I was half way through a book called the Bad Girl when Sebastian was born. But if I ever quit a book, I never resume reading it again. NEVER! And thus the Bad Girl shall wither away on my bookshelf, until someone finds it, the way I was once attracted to it whilst canvassing a bookshop. In some cases, and it happens rarely, the book seeks the reader. It’s frequently the insipid and dull covers, that somehow manage to speak beyond their bound caskets. This has happened to me on more than a few occasions and it happened once again the other day.
It was in fact on Queensday, when we were strolling the open flea-market that Haarlem had turned into. As usual I was on the look out for books and within 5 minutes I came across a stand with a majority of English novels. Interestingly enough they were the type of books I usually enjoy reading and it made me curious as to who the owner was. However the stand was operated by a few school girls who didn’t seem to be en par with the level of English required, and thus I excluded them from the list of potential suspects.
The first book that caught my attention was one with a black cover by the name of the Heart Shaped Box. I soon discovered it was a mystery/ghost story, and one that got great critical acclaim. Several other books looked promising too, and as there were other potential buyers going through the books neatly laid on the ground, I decided to lay my hands on as many as I could. A few minutes later I walked away with 10 books for a mere EUR 12,50;-.
Yesterday I started in earnest to read the first book, and within the first few pages I was captured. It’s a page-turner, the kind of book I will take with me wherever I go, so to make use of every second and minute that otherwise would be wasted on cleaning up sms’s, reading menus or flickering through a month old glossy. On that note I shall jump into the shower, lunch in town with my book is waiting!

Oh nooo…but you have to finish Bad Girl – it is so lovely!
