Business and pleasure, do they mix?

We arrived sometime after 6 pm in Copenhagen and checked in. Arriving at Hotel Skt Petri feels like coming home. Everyone knows you and the service is great. Reinout had a business dinner with M, and it turned out to be a great evening. The thing with business dinners is that I hate talking business. At least to a start. I get totally fascinated with the person instead and start probing into all sorts of things, especially nogo areas such as politics, religion and culture. Although not the argumentative type, out on a mission to convert people, I pry into all kind of forbidden areas. Equally do I disclose a great deal about myself and my shortcomings, projecting myself as the biggest clown on earth. Reinout is not totally amused and neither are my colleagues when shit hits the fan.

But somehow, it turns out ok and disaster turns into fascinating discussions. Last night was a night like that. The kind of evening you meet someone, have great fun with and wish, “damn why are we here talking business when in fact we are hitting off on a social level”. And perhaps that is the thing with business, perhaps one should mix business and pleasure. Make friends out of business partners and why not the opposite too.

We finished dinner well after midnight and Reinout and I had a last nightcap at the bar before hitting the sack for a well deserved sleep. I haven’t slept so well in ages!
