Appointments
Two appointments constituted most of my day. The appointment that I thought I had with the midwife for tomorrow was in fact for today. Contrary to what I thought it would be, it was over in less than 5 min.
- How are you doing?
- Fine.
- Any complaints?
- No.
- Let’s check your iron level.
- OK. I look away as I can’t stand seeing blood. Especially my own.
- Iron level is fine (8.3)
- Mmm
- Let’s check your baby.
Walking to the the examination table.
- Your belly looks beautiful.
- Mmm
- The heartbeat also sounds good.
- Fantastic. I try to put on a smile to please the midwife.
But I just can’t get worked up by these things. Especially in the company of a midwife. Let’s face it they see hundreds of pregnant women every month, so whatever they say is as genuine as a rehearsed script. They are suppose to say that your tummy looks great, and how nice the heartbeat sounds (unless there really is a serious issue). I always feel a great relief when I’m out of there, and this time was no different.
Luckily I had some time to overcome the trauma of my midwife encounter, and I headed into town for a quick lunch and cigars to Reinout. He’s in a peculiar mood so I anticipated the cigars would do the trick. He smiled and gave me a hug. Phew.
I have a new project that I am working on and I spent the afternoon dedicated to this until it was time for my facial. My skin has always been a weak spot for me, and luckily I have found an excellent beautician (Nouvelle Cosmetique in Haarlem) that are specialised in custom treatments. Some years ago I did a chemical peel there to clear up my hyper-pigmentation, and now I do microdermabrasions alternated with deep-clean facials. When I’m back on track in February, I will start with a new skin therapy called hydrodermabrasion, which is combined with an acid peel particularly for hyperpigmentation, acne scars, wrinkles and fine lines. I can’t wait to start my body overhaul. There will be a new me! I shall, I will, I must!

A happy and relaxed me
