A very lucky woman
I’ve just got back from a long walk into town, where we enjoyed a nice lunch (I swapped my usual iced latte for a double espresso in the name of a low carb diet). When we reached the cross road, Reinout made a little detour into the jewellery shop. My heart leaped a notch, as I was reminded by my comment on diamonds for Valentines. It was certainly not my intention to beg for those earrings. But there was another surprise in store. We sat down and a woman presented four exquisite solitaire diamond rings. I was dumbfound and perplexed.
“It’s a tradition in Holland that you get a ring when you give birth to a baby.” Reinout explained.
“Wow, I should give birth more often.”
“At least you can always sell one of them, in case you run out of cash.” He was referring to the time when I couldn’t pay for my wedding dress and sold off my mother’s jewellery. Not a clever thing to do. Luckily he managed to salvage the most valuable pieces before they were forever lost to posterity.
As this ring will go with the plain wedding ring, I settled for a classical setting. It’s a stunning ring, which will be engraved with the name of our son or daughter.
We walked out of the shop and I just didn’t know what to say. When you get a gift like that, there are no words for it. Whatever I’d say would not be enough. But then and there I knew one thing…. I am a very, very lucky woman.
Pregnant chic
Beyond words…in so many ways
