38 weeks and growing!

It’s getting closer and closer to D-day. I’m not really sure that I am prepared for this adventure. I haven’t read a single baby book, and I’m still missing bits and pieces for being fully baby proof. Reinout is more organised than I am though. Today he came home with the cutest baby furniture to go with the cot. I really think we have the most stylish baby room on this planet. Finally our upstairs sitting room has got a purpose.

Reinout has been nagging me on packing the delivery bag, the bag containing all the necessities for when going to the hospital. I’ve finally done it, so one more cross on the action list. A couple of days ago I was at the midwife and still no talk about what I need to be prepared for, how I would like it etc. It doesn’t seem to be something that is done in the Netherlands. In Sweden the women have right to choose the type of care and delivery to a certain extent, but here it doesn’t seem to be that way. I find it very odd. I just don’t want to be manhandled my some incompetent midwife. It may sound cynical, but me and midwifes don’t go together. Same with hospitals. I wonder how this will end?

He Susanne, my advice would be not to automatically go with the midwife! You can really decide a lot of things for yourself, but you must ask actively. So just tell her what you want and maybe even write it down. You don’t have to let everything go with her flow!

    Your Message@astrid:

Thanks Astrid, I will take your advice and write it down. In fact this is very common to do in Sweden but my midwife hasn’t suggested anything I should think about. I just don’t want to be completely unprepared.
